Singapore Aug 2005

In late summer we traveled to Singapore (via Paris - a whole other post required on this subject) then onto Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia. Just a word of warning for those considering a connecting flight via Charles de Galle – PLEASE seriously reconsider. I promise to share this story later in another post.

Our first 2 ½ days in Singapore we stayed at the Oriental Singapore (one of our favourite hotel chains). This property is gorgeous & an architectural marvel, but we did notice that this particular location is slightly below average Oriental standards in the way of general services. Nonetheless, we would still recommend this hotel as long as you do not compare it to other properties in the Oriental chain. On our first stay we booked a regular room which was quite spacious with a nice view of the city. Since we were quite tired from the flight we accidentally slept through our first morning - what a waste but ... what can you do?

After finally waking up we spent most of our 2 days getting familiar with the surroundings, planning what sights we would see, shopping, shopping & shopping oh ya and I think we also did some … shopping! Our hotel was conveniently located close to Suntec City Shopping Mall – a “serious” shopping mall for those wanting to do some “serious” shopping. I loaded up on beautiful summer skirts while Arnie hit the electronic stores searching for cool gadgets.
