Tahiti Island Tour
Legendary Tahiti - known as isle of love - earthly paradise - a land of beauty & enchantment where the temperature is always delightful, with beautiful, friendly people. This is where we spent the majority of our vacation & we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Tahiti is actually divided into Big Tahiti (Nui Tahiti) and Little Tahiti (Iti Tahiti) - a 114 kilometre drive. The road passes villages, plantations (coconut, vanilla, pineapple) and tropical forests. 
On the west coast of Tahiti, is the Maraa Grotto, where overhead springs drip through a ceiling of ferns into a cave formed by the sea. Giant elephant ear plants and 'taro' grace the entrance. 
Above is one of many stunning waterfalls that are spread out along the side of the road along the west coast - we found a new one every 10 minutes. According to the guidebooks, there are over 71 miles of various coastline scenery with waterfalls, peaceful black-sanded beaches, wave-pounded cliffs and rich tropical vegetation.
The beaches of Tahiti are unique with soft, basalt, black sand - due to the extinct volcanoes that historically created these island. Although, it is not white sand, it is still soft & beautiful in its own way. 
There is a small area that is famous for its blowhole-type of displays as the surf crashes in & out. 
Above is the rich tropical valley that are typical of the central part of Tahiti - rain trickles down from the mountains via the many waterfalls to form lovely freshwater areas.
Above are many locals who surf on Tahiti's east coast, anywhere along the point of Venus and the mouth of Papeeno. As you can see it is a popular place filled with surfers of various ages, levels & also families enjoying the surf. This photo was taken from above, on the main road.

This is one of Tahiti's major historical and archaeological point of interest, Point Venus, where Captain Cook made his observations. This was one of our last stops for the day. As it was on Saturday, the surrounding park was filled with families enjoying a leisurely afternoon in the sun with loved ones. The air was filled with the sound of laughing children (music to my ears), local music, laughing adults & just a general fun atmosphere.
